Đurđevac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Stari grad is a Croatian cultural monument and one of the best-preserved Gothic-Renaissance fortresses in continental Croatia. The medieval fortification is a water castle, and its construction began in the 14th century. Today, Stari grad houses the Muzej Grada Đurđevca.
Finding a holiday apartment in Đurđevac can be a destination in its own right when planning your stay.
Culture
The Muzej Grada Đurđevca includes a permanent exhibition featuring 163 works from the donation of Ivan Lacković Croata. In Đurđevac, the donation itself comprises more than 2,000 paintings, sculptures and posters by over 200 artists from around 20 countries. In addition, throughout the year the museum presents changing museum and gallery exhibitions, organises lectures and workshops, and offers further activities.
The Interpretacijski centar Picokijade presents local history, ethnographic heritage, and natural and geographical features, while also focusing on the legend of the Picoki. Picokijada is a traditional tourism event held annually in Đurđevac at the end of June. It commemorates the legendary defence of the city against an Ottoman attack and includes tradition, culture, customs, living history, and the tasting of traditional foods.
Inside Stari grad, the Stari grad restaurant and tavern serve traditional dishes from Podravina, local wines – including “Vina s peskov” – and beer. In the vicinity of Đurđevac, in Čepelovac, Dvor Barnagor offers gallery spaces and the ARS atelier Barnagor, where creative activities take place throughout the year.
Nature
The Đurđevački pijesci are considered Croatia’s largest and highest deposits of aeolian sand. The part located east of Đurđevac has been a special geographical and botanical reserve since 1963. The Posjetiteljski centar Đurđevački pijesci uses augmented-reality multimedia to explain the sandy landscape and its plant and animal diversity; this interpretation is available indoors throughout the year.
Park šuma Borik is a century-old forest of pine and acacia trees with a network of paths and a fitness trail. Walking, running, cycling and sports training are possible in this forest.
Activities
Next to Stari grad, the Mini zoo Hrvatska Sahara is a visitor attraction featuring a group of camels and other animals. The Amazon of Europe Bike Trail S07 connects Koprivnica and Đurđevac via an easy 50.7-kilometre asphalt route.
The Đurđevački Graničari Equestrian Club offers sport, recreational, cross-country and therapeutic riding with qualified riding instructors. Podravina Adventure offers tandem paramotor paragliding with panoramic views of Đurđevac.
