Nature

The Mrežnica is 64 kilometres long and features 93 travertine barriers, cascades and waterfalls. Kavurov slap is a named waterfall on the Mrežnica in Belavići and is located below the new bridge.

The bathing areas on the Mrežnica in Belavići are classified as important tourist facilities. Swimming takes place in the Mrežnica at the Belavići bridge and at nearby river spots such as Vesela livada and Otok ljubavi. Canoes may be available for hire; availability should be checked before arrival.

Culture

Numerous historic mills still stand along the Mrežnica; many have been repurposed for tourism.

The Belavići bridge over the Mrežnica bears the cultural heritage designation GN 01. The present reinforced-concrete bridge was opened on 26 October 2012 and replaced the old wooden bridge. Wooden railing elements on the bridge were replaced and new lighting was installed. The former wooden bridge was described as the longest bridge of its kind in Croatia.

Traditions

By December 2024, Club Vodomar had been organising the Božićni rafting for 18 years. The traditional Božićni rafting starts in Belavići on the Mrežnica and travels downstream towards the bathing area of Duga Resa.

Getting Around

County road Ž3183 leads from Belavići via Gornje Bukovlje to Zvečaj. Belavići can be reached by car or train. Vesela livada and Otok ljubavi are about a 13-minute walk from the railway station, in the direction of Duga Resa; the train journey from Zagreb Central Station takes about one and a half hours.

By the River

Beside the Mrežnica, Belavići is home to the Vesela Livada beach bar, where drinks, food and ice cream are available.
