Nature

The area around Grubišno Polje is characterized by preserved meadows along the Ilova and the oak- and beech-rich forests of the Bilogora. It is home to rare or protected species such as the white-tailed eagle, white and black storks, beavers, otters, fritillaries, wild orchids and Siberian irises.

The Bara recreational area covers approximately three hectares and is surrounded by forest. It has two sport fishing ponds with walking paths. The grounds also offer beach volleyball and small-sided football courts; sporting, cultural and entertainment events take place there throughout the year.

Culture

Marinje was introduced in 1900 as a parish festival celebrating the name of Mary and developed into an important Marian celebration and pilgrimage in Bjelovar-Bilogora County in the early 20th century. It is the parish's largest celebration and takes place on the Sunday after 12 September.

The Church of Saint George the Great Martyr in Grubišno Polje was built between 1773 and 1775 and is protected as a historic monument. Also located in Grubišno Polje is the archaeological site Arheološko nalazište Šuma Obrovi, with late medieval fortifications and a church with a cemetery. The Church of Saint Joseph was built in 1782.

The Gradska knjižnica Mato Lovrak dates back to a reading room established in 1881, where residents read newspapers, magazines and books. Today, it preserves a local history collection and has rooms for cultural and educational programs, lectures and exhibitions. The Centar za kulturu i informiranje dr. Franjo Tuđman is the most important cultural institution in Grubišno Polje and hosts cultural and social events throughout the year.

In the municipality, the Etno kuća Bilogora in Grbavac presents rural life through old tools and authentic rooms, including a bedroom, a kitchen, a room at the entrance to the attic and a forge. The institution preserves traditions passed down through generations and organizes, among other things, feather-plucking events, the raising of a maypole and an Olympics of traditional sports.

Leisure

The Grubišno Polje area offers opportunities for relaxing walks, fishing in the Ilova and local sport fishing ponds, as well as hunting in the surrounding forests. A county cycling route passes through Grubišno Polje and connects Bjelovar, Čazma, Garešnica, Daruvar and Grubišno Polje. Grubišno Polje also hosted the cultural tourism route “Tragovima Ivana Nepomuka Jemeršića”.

Geographical Location

The D5 (E661) runs through Grubišno Polje and connects Virovitica and the Hungarian border to the north with Pakrac, Lipik and Stara Gradiška to the south. A frequent bus service operates on the Bjelovar–Grubišno Polje–Daruvar route, with several departures daily.
