In the centre of Bjelovar lies Trg Eugena Kvaternika. The square combines a planned historic square, a central park with around forty native and foreign plant species, the Church of Saint Teresa of Ávila from 1772, an Orthodox church with a remarkable iconostasis and murals, and the city museum in the former town hall from 1831.

The Barutana Memorial Site is also part of the city’s cultural and commemorative heritage. It is located in Bedenik Forest in the northwest of Bjelovar.

Culinary Highlights

Bjelovarski kvargl is a traditional cheese from the Bjelovar area. The cheese has a protected geographical indication of the EU. To produce it, fresh cow’s cheese is mixed with salt and ground red paprika, formed into small cones, dried and smoked.

Cycling

The Plavnička cycling route connects Bjelovar with the recreational fishing pond near Starčevljani. The Bilogorska cycling route starts in the centre of Bjelovar and is 27 kilometres long. The Vinogradska cycling route runs mainly through the lowlands. Several hospitality businesses are located along the Bilogorska cycling route, while the Sajamska cycling route passes by Bjelovar.

Three stations in Bjelovar are listed for renting electric bicycles. Bjelovar also has two self-service bicycle repair stations.
