Donji Humac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The parish church of St. Fabian and St. Sebastian towers over the village with its Baroque bell tower. It preserves a 13th-century fresco considered one of the oldest in southern Croatia; the church is also associated with a pilgrimage that continues to this day.

Culture

Several historic churches can be found in the vicinity of Donji Humac: the 10th-century Church of St. Elijah, built on the remains of a Roman mausoleum; the pre-Romanesque Church of St. Luke; and the Church of the Holy Cross, dating from the 14th to 15th centuries.

Numerous stone houses in Donji Humac bear witness to a centuries-old tradition of stoneworking. Around the village church, there are also stone sculptures created during the International Sculpture Symposia held in Donji Humac.

The Jakšić Gallery is located in a family estate surrounded by the artists’ workshops. It displays paintings, jewellery made from semi-precious stones, and stone sculptures. Its collection also includes household objects made of Brač stone and stone furniture.

Nature

Kopačina Cave lies 500 metres west of the Gnjilac quarry, northwest of Donji Humac. From a plateau on its southern side, there are views across the Donji Humac valley towards the western coast of Brač.

The archaeological layers of Kopačina contain Epigravettian artefacts and fauna from the Late Glacial period. These are followed by Mesolithic tools, Bronze Age pottery, and a Bronze Age axe.

Things to Do

The Dolčevita hiking trail is just over six kilometres long and leads to Donji Humac and Dračevica.

The cycling tour “Biciklistička tura od vrha do mora” leads from Vidova Gora down a dirt track to Nerežišća and to the inland village of Donji Humac.

Food and Drink

The Kopačina tavern in Donji Humac serves traditional Croatian cuisine, specialising in lamb dishes, farm-fresh ingredients, and homemade olive oil.
