Culture and History

The bell tower in Ložišća is considered a masterpiece by a Croatian master. It was originally intended for Venice, but reached Brač in 1899. The parish house and the First School in Ložišća were built in 1857 and are considered valuable examples of residential and public architecture from the mid-19th century.

The Kameni most, locally known as the Franz Joseph Bridge, spans the gorge route from Ložišća towards Vičja luka and is considered a protected, rare engineering monument from the 19th century.

Landscape

Ložišća is situated on a very steep clearing. Stone houses rise along steep lanes from a deep gorge. Olive groves and pine forest surround the climbing areas near Ložišće.

Donji Pisk, also known as Stara voda, was established at the beginning of the 19th century as one of the largest water collection points on Brač. The water there was collected in stone basins and used to water livestock.

Activities

The climbing area in Ložišće has routes of all difficulty levels; climbing is considered possible there year-round. The Tramuntana cycling route includes Ložišća as one of the villages on Brač that form part of its route.

The Kameni most can be reached on foot through Ložišća or by car via the Ložišća bypass and then along a gravel road through olive groves.

Local Traditions

The inhabitants of Ložišća have cultivated grapevines and olives from the beginnings of the settlement to the present day.
