Holiday apartments in Bodenets: village church and Mezdra

Bodenets is a village in Mezdra Municipality in the northwestern Bulgarian province of Vratsa. Its local history describes a small valley with a stream, east of Vratsa. If you are looking for a holiday apartment here, you can combine a visit to the village church with a separate trip to the Kaleto archaeological complex in Mezdra. Bodenets and neighbouring Krapets to the north are separate villages.

The church in the village centre

The Sv. Dimitar Church opened on 26 October 2012. The foundation stone was laid on 6 May 2003; volunteer work and donations supported the project over almost a decade. The municipality provided a plot of land for it in the centre.

The single-nave, cross-domed building is 12.80 metres long, 10.40 metres wide and 9.76 metres high. It gives the village centre a clearly identifiable cultural landmark. If you wish to visit the interior, check local access and service times separately.

History and a trip to Mezdra

The village history published by the regional library project dates the founding of the school to 1857. It places the village area between Mezdra to the south and Krapets to the north. This historical description helps with orientation; it is not a signposted hiking route.

Kaleto lies on the southwestern edge of the town of Mezdra, on a rocky ridge above the left bank of the Iskar. There, archaeological traces dating from the Chalcolithic to the Middle Ages can be found alongside preserved fortifications. This is a separate destination in Mezdra, not a sight within Bodenets. Check current visiting hours and any guided tours directly with the complex.
