Kozarevets: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Kozarevets, local history, theatre, folklore and culinary traditions come together. The Orthodox Church of Saint Paraskeva–Petka Tarnovska was built in 1850, and the village’s first cell school was established in 1855. After the earthquake of 1913, the church was rebuilt in the same year.

Culture

The renovated Zemedelets-1899 building houses an information centre, a conference hall with 45 seats and an exhibition hall featuring traditional costumes and items from everyday life in the region.

The amateur theatre in Kozarevets began in 1897 with a performance of Kara Tanas. The Parashkev Parashkevov theatre group at the community centre has achieved laureate status at republican amateur theatre festivals. At the 13th National Petropavlovski Festival, the Avliga folklore group from Kozarevets received the festival’s laureate title.

Festivals and Customs

14 October, the day of Saint Paraskeva–Petka Tarnovska, is the feast day of Kozarevets’s church of the same name. The village’s Petkovden celebration includes a kurban feast and a programme of festivities attended by residents and visitors.

The Tulum of Kozarevets is also known as the bachelors’ wedding, Bartholomew’s wedding or men’s wedding. The ritual takes place in Kozarevets every four years.

Cuisine

The Kozarevets Club for Traditional Culinary Arts represents the village at regional and national culinary festivals. In addition, the annual Chicken Soup Day culinary competition is held here, during which chicken soup is prepared in public.

Transport

Kozarevets is located near the I-4 (E772) Sofia–Varna first-class road and has very good road connections to the surrounding settlements. Kozarevets railway station was opened as a stopping point in 1901 and became a station in 1910. It served the residents of Kozarevets, Dobri dyal, Pisarevo and Rodina.
