Culture and History

The Historical Museum of Gorna Oryahovitsa preserves the city’s heritage in six departments: archaeology, ethnography, the Bulgarian National Revival, education, national liberation struggles, and historic urban life. One of the museum’s exhibitions on Gornooryahovski sudzhuk traces the product’s development from early recipes to its protected geographical indication in 2011.

The Alley of Revivalists in Hristo Botev Park was created in 2006 with stone busts of Hristo Botev and members of the Grancharov family. In the center of Gorna Oryahovitsa stands the Georgi Izmirliev Monument, a bronze bust erected on September 6, 1910.

Nature

Kamaka is an emblematic plateau associated with Gorna Oryahovitsa that includes an eco-trail, scenic areas, and a hut. The highest point of Kamaka is 439 meters above sea level. The Kamaka eco-trail reaches the summit in about an hour.

The Kamaka meadow has a picnic area, swings, and climbing frames. The protected Bozhur Polyana, a habitat of the rare peony, is located within the municipality of Gorna Oryahovitsa.

Routes

Gorna Oryahovitsa railway station is a major railway junction of national importance with significant passenger and freight traffic. A visitor route connects the Historical Museum in Gorna Oryahovitsa with the Ryahovets Fortress, the St Prophet Elijah Monastery, and the Earth Sanctuary. A tourist railway route connects Gorna Oryahovitsa, Lyaskovets, and Elena. Bozhur Hut offers overnight accommodation and catering.
