Maglizh: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Maglizh combines a historic monastery complex with traces of its role as a fortress and road station. The Maglizh Monastery complex includes a museum cell restored in 2018 and associated with Vasil Levski, a former cell of the monastery school, and a censer with a Greek inscription dating from 1233. The site also comprises a church, residential and utility buildings, and two chapels.

Culture and History

During the Bulgarian National Revival, Maglizh Monastery first opened a boys' school and later a girls' school. In 1870, it became a progymnasium with a rich library. In Roman and medieval times, Maglizh served as a fortress and road station at the intersection of ancient routes.

In 1869, residents of Maglizh founded a community center described as Bulgaria's first rural community center.

Maglizh hosted the National Festival of Ethnicities “Equal in Difference”. The focus was on the songs, dances, and customs of various ethnic communities. The Maglizh Ethnic Festival also featured home-cooked food and specialties associated with the Bulgarian, Karakachan, and Roma communities living and working in the town. One edition of the festival included the “Grandmother's Kitchen” tasting exhibition with dishes and ritual breads.

Nature

The Waterfall Stalba eco educational trail running through Maglizh is 9.4 kilometers long and is considered a difficult route. It crosses the peaks of Popak, Stefancha, Krastilcha, and Yaitseto, passes close to Vinishki Kamen, and continues toward Big Skok.

Waterfall Stalba is described as a waterfall with a stepped formation created by flowing water.
