Pirdop: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Pirdop is the starting point for tourist routes to the Pascal Hut. The town combines this connection to the mountains with a local museum collection, historic buildings, and cultural and sporting events held annually.

Nature

In Pirdop, nine Canadian sequoias planted in 1930 are described as a natural attraction.

The Dushantsi Reservoir can be reached via an asphalt road; its surrounding meadows are considered a preferred place for summer stays. The reservoir is also a training base for Bulgaria's national canoeing and kayaking team and a starting point for hikes to Koprivshtitsa railway station, Mount Klimash, and Koprivshtitsa.

A mountain trail leads to the Pascal Hut in about two hours, or a gravel road can be followed in about 40 minutes using an off-road vehicle. Pirdop also has a tourist lodge with 30 beds and a unit of the mountain rescue service.

Culture and History

The Lukanova House Museum is a local architectural monument. Lukanova House was built between 1870 and 1872 for the family of Luka Pavlov and, after the town was liberated from Ottoman rule, housed Pirdop's first municipal administration. The historical museum collection in Lukanova House opened on June 1, 1984. Its exhibition is spread across eight halls and a foyer and covers the history of Pirdop and its surrounding area from antiquity to the 1970s.

The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God was built in 1819 and is described as the oldest monument of the Bulgarian National Revival in the area. It underwent extensive restoration from 1997 to 2002.

The Kufarita Bridge is an architectural and historical monument from the Ottoman period, built on the foundations of a Roman-era bridge. As a single-arch road structure, it follows the route of an ancient Roman road.

Events

Pirdop's annual Vlaikovi Days take place in the second and third weeks of May. The program includes theater performances, art and woodcarving exhibitions, and presentations of books by local authors.

In the Borova Gora area, Pirdop organizes an annual winter sports and tourist festival. Horse races for young people, tug-of-war, and other competitions for children take place there.
