Mramor: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A settlement already existed at the site of present-day Mramor in Thracian times. The Manastira area also contains settlement remains about 2 km northwest of Mramor. Three Thracian altars have been preserved in the churchyard of Mramor.

History

The Orthodox Church of All Saints in Mramor dates back to 1887. Another important institution is the Chitalishte St Ivan Rilski–1922, which was founded in Mramor on 11 May 1922.

Culture

The women's folklore group Shopska Pletanitsa is also associated with the Chitalishte and was founded there in 1996. The Zora Dance Club studies Bulgarian folk dances from all ethnographic regions and takes part in folklore festivals throughout Bulgaria.

A distinctive cultural feature in Mramor is the celebration of Todorovden. The festivities include horse races as well as ensembles for folk singing and folk dancing. The ritual breads of Todorovden include the breads known as “konche” or “kopito”.

Nature

The “Mramor Reservoir Protected Area” is located in the area of Mramor, in Vrabnitsa District, in Sofia Municipality. It preserves a lake ecosystem that provides a habitat for around 200 valuable and protected bird species.
