Orehovo: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Orehovo is described as a pioneer of rural tourism in Dolen Rupchus. The village lies on a broad southern slope facing the Oreshitsa River, at an altitude of around 900 metres. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Orehovo can then continue searching for accommodation.

Nature

The forests around Orehovo are mixed deciduous and coniferous forests, while the meadows are rich in medicinal herbs. Duplevo Waterfall is a protected natural landmark within the Orehovo area. The Duplevo rock phenomenon is a 15-minute walk from Orehovo and includes a cave with a seasonal waterfall. Kosten Kamak is a rocky niche described as a counterpart to the Wonderful Bridges.

Culture and History

The Rodope Future community centre houses a historical and ethnographic museum collection. It contains tools and household items used by local people until the mid-20th century, as well as archaeological finds from the area around the settlement.

A well-preserved section of the Roman road runs west of Orehovo, passing the Persenk Chalet. At the end of September, residents and visitors celebrate Walnut Day.

Local Character

In the late 20th century, residents opened their homes to guests. Orehovo’s hospitality includes typical local dishes.
