Culture and History

Construction of the Church of St Prophet Elijah began in the early 17th century and was completed in 1838. The St Prophet Elijah Temple has a wood-carved iconostasis, frescoes and a mosaic floor and has been declared a cultural monument. Archaeological excavations in Krushovitsa uncovered traces of ancient settlements at the Lokach and Trupkata sites.

The mosque in Krushovitsa was built in 1902–1903 and reconstructed in 1990. It has an Ottoman-style minaret, an ablution room, a separate prayer area for women and a mihrab. Krushovitsa has both a church and a mosque, reflecting its mixed population.

The history of the wars is commemorated by a monument to those killed in the wars of 1885–1944 and a memorial plaque dedicated to volunteers in the Russo-Turkish War. The Spring Festival of Ethnicities was held in Krushovitsa for at least two consecutive years and includes songs, dances, speeches and carnival costumes to share traditions.

Nature

The Vit River flows near Krushovitsa. Ezeroto near Krushovitsa is described as the largest karst spring in the region. Its flow rate is 78–118 litres per second; the spring supplies Pleven with water.

There are five functioning public wells in Krushovitsa: Lukach above the settlement and Tanina, Vatkinska, Yanina and Oreshkovets below the settlement.

Krushovitsa is described as the natural geographical centre of Dolni Dabnik Municipality.
