Chakalarovo: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

An approximately 11-kilometre-long educational eco-trail leads from Chakalarovo to Veykata Peak. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Chakalarovo can continue their search for accommodation afterwards.

Nature

The Gyumurdzhinsky Snowfield Protected Area covers 1,926.4 hectares and includes the areas around Chakalarovo. It extends to the Bulgarian-Greek border.

Chakalarovo is home to a protected natural monument consisting of a holly tree (Ilex aquifolium). This rare evergreen shrub or small tree species is listed in Bulgaria's Red Data Book. The specimen is approximately 7 metres tall and is located about 1 km from the village centre on the route towards Veykata Peak.

The schoolyard in Chakalarovo contains a protected field elm estimated to be approximately 300 years old. Its trunk circumference is 4.2 metres and it is about 25 metres tall; the elm can be connected with a route towards Veykata Peak.

Trails and Views

Veykata Peak reaches 1,463 metres and is the southernmost point of Bulgaria. The route from Chakalarovo to the summit begins at an unpaved road by the village bridge. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach a former border post; from there, a trail continues to the summit in about two hours.

In clear weather, the view from Veykata Peak extends across Greece and the Aegean Sea.

Culture and Cuisine

The Chakalarovo Corn Festival traditionally offers visitors boiled corn. The planned programme also included a reenactment of an old traditional wedding.

The planned programme for guests included local dishes such as patatnik, klin, banitsa and kachamak.

A complex features a summer garden, a swimming pool and a restaurant.
