History

The sanctuary was dedicated to Zeus and Hera and is connected with the ancient settlement of Karistorum. It was intensively used until the end of the 4th century, before being violently destroyed.
In the vicinity of Kopilovtsi, the Regional History Museum in Kyustendil displays busts of Zeus and Hera from the sanctuary near Kopilovtsi; they date from the 2nd century. The Spasovitsa hill, also called Nikolichevsko Burdo, rises above Kopilovtsi.
