Kotscherinowo: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Stob Pyramids are predominantly cone-shaped formations with stone caps. They are generally 7 to 10 metres high, with some reaching 12 metres. The pyramids are located in the land of Stob at the entrance to the gorge leading to the Rila Monastery and consist of clayey-sandy formations with deeply incised shapes.

Nature

A visitor and information centre is operating in the village of Stob in connection with the Stob Pyramids natural landmark. The Stob Pyramids can be visited via an ecological trail: From Kotscherinowo, follow the main road towards the Rila Monastery, turn off towards Stob, reach the trail approximately 2 kilometres after the turn-off, and walk about 1 kilometre to the pyramids.

The Kocherinowo protected area is internationally significant for breeding corncrakes and is one of Bulgaria’s important EU areas for white storks, which feed in wet meadows.

Culture

Near Kocherinowo, archaeological remains include the walls, buildings and water pipelines of the medieval Bulgarian fortified settlement of Krashevo.

Theatre activities resumed in the municipality of Kocherinowo after a 15-year absence. Over several months, five theatre performances, a stage circus and other cultural events took place. Kocherinowo also has a children’s theatre school with 10 participants.

Traditional cultural events in the municipality include Palm Sunday, International Dance Day, Stork Day and Crafts Day. The municipality of Kocherinowo has celebrated its annual town holiday on 21 September since 2000.

The equipped Global Libraries halls in Kocherinowo and Stob provide information services and support with the use of computer equipment.

Getting Around

The Sofia–Kulata–Thessaloniki–Athens railway line runs through the municipality of Kocherinowo. Kocherinowo railway station and the Mursalevo railway halt are in operation.

The route to the Rila Monastery follows the international E79 road. Near Kocherinowo, continue via the signposted turn-off; the monastery is still approximately 25 kilometres away. The Rila Monastery is a popular tourist destination in Bulgaria and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
