History and Culture

The fortified palace of a Thracian ruler near Tatarmasha above Knyazhevo is dated to the middle of the fourth century BC. Route 3 runs through Knyazhevo and passes close to the Tatarmasha site, which is associated with a large Thracian ruler's residence from the Hellenistic period.

Knyazhevo is also home to the Church of Saint Demetrius. The town's community centre “Razvitie–1932” has an authentic folklore group called “Pastar buket”.

Nature

Knyazhevo lies within the Sakar protected area under the Birds Directive. The Natura 2000 protected area BG0000195 “Tundzha River 2” includes land belonging to Knyazhevo.

The Kuru(d)zha River near Knyazhevo was one of the rivers surveyed in the Sakar zone in 2022.

Surroundings

In Topolovgrad Municipality, recreational and tourism zones are located in the Sakar Mountains, near Paleokastro, along the route to Mount Vishegrad, at the Kazankite locality, and in the Lower Tundzha Gorge.

Connections

Knyazhevo is the nearest settlement on Route 3 “Haidushki Monastery”. Route 3 continues to Sinapovo. A road leads from Sinapovo to Topolovgrad, where the route ends.
