Svilengrad: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Svilengrad, the Mustafa Pasha Bridge, also known as the Old Bridge, crosses the Maritsa. The structure was built in 1529 by the Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan and has 20 stone arches. The Old Bridge is designated as a national monument and connects the two parts of Svilengrad.

Culture

In the middle of the Mustafa Pasha Bridge stands a marble bas-relief plaque with an Ottoman inscription. Svilengrad’s historical sights also include the Church of the Holy Trinity, which was built in 1834 through voluntary donations, and the Hristo Popmarkov School, which was founded in 1848 and is the oldest school in the city.

Nature

A riverside promenade for pedestrians runs along the embankment of the Maritsa to the Old Bridge. The promenade includes pergolas and benches; it also has an irrigation system and lighting. The tourist information centre provides information about walking routes.

Geographical location

The Obshtina Svilengrad comprises flat, hilly and low-mountain terrain. Its central part lies in the Upper Thracian Plain; the municipality also includes the foothills of the Sakar Mountains and the Gora ridge of the Eastern Rhodopes. The Maritsa is the main water resource and the receiving river of the Obshtina Svilengrad.

The Eastern Rhodopes Nature Park covers parts of the areas of Mezek and Siva Reka. Part of the Sakar CORINE area within the municipality has international nature conservation status.
