Tryavna: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Tryavna preserves Bulgarian National Revival architecture in its old town, as well as active craft workshops where artisans continue to practise traditional Tryavna crafts. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Tryavna can then continue searching for accommodation.

Culture

The Daskalova House contains a reconstructed woodcarving workshop where the preparatory process and carving tools are displayed. It also features carved sun canopies made in 1808 by master craftsman Dimitar Oshanetsa and apprentice Ivan Bochukovetsa. The craft tradition is also reflected in the fact that around 40 icon-painting workshops operated in Tryavna in the 19th century, involving entire families.

The Old School includes a reconstructed classroom from a mutual school. Visitors can write in sand and read at school desks there. The building also houses an exhibition of historical clocks and a documentary exhibition on the history of education in Tryavna.

St Michael's Church was rebuilt in 1819 on the site of an earlier church and decorated with woodcarvings and icons by members of the Vitanov family. Services began in the new St George's Church on 21 December 1852.

Nature and Trails

Tryavna is a gateway to the mountain area of Bulgarka Nature Park. Bulgarka Nature Park is a protected area on the ridges and northern slopes of the Central Stara Planina above Tryavna. It extends into Tryavna Municipality and contains designated protected areas and natural monuments.

The Bazovets Eco-Trail is marked in red, has a stated duration of two hours, and begins at the Bazovets stop near Krastets railway station. It climbs to the 897-metre-high Bazovets summit and continues to a panoramic terrace overlooking mountain hamlets. Along the route there is a rest shelter with benches and tables.

There are marked cycling routes around Krastets railway station. The Krastets Eco-Trail follows a historic route associated with the transfer of the relics of Saint Ivan of Rila to Tarnovo.

Getting There

A railway line connecting northern and southern Bulgaria runs through Tryavna. From access points to Bulgarka Nature Park, including Tryavna, starting points for hiking, cycling and eco-routes can be reached by car and bus.
