The avenue-like shelterbelts of Karvuna were established on both sides of a road; in these installations, a four-metre-wide road runs through the middle. Some Karvuna shelterbelts are designed as avenue-like strips on both sides of a road.

The Karvuna part of the land around Senokos contains comparatively large forested areas. Karvuna is also connected with the state forestry departments 188/b, 188/m and 189/b. Karvuna is also connected with the Natura 2000 site BG0000102 “Batova River Valley”.

Geographical Location

Karvuna has rural and forested road sections. The locality is home to a State Psychiatric Hospital. The hospital stands on extensive, wooded grounds surrounded by a perimeter fence. It is located in an isolated area approximately 50 kilometres north of Varna.

In 2018, the Senokos–Karvuna road was described as a road serving the hospital because Karvuna had no inhabitants.

History

In Bulgarian and Greek documents from the 13th and 14th centuries, medieval Balchik was referred to as Karbona (Karvuna). Medieval Karvuna is believed to have been the seat of the Dobrudjan ruler Balik.

One of the proposed identifications of historical Karvuna is the Kraneia Fortress near Kranevo.
