Holiday apartment in Zvirići: Stećak heritage and cycling route L202

Zvirići is home to Stećak necropolises that are part of the cultural and historical heritage of Ljubuški. The village therefore combines an important archaeological connection with a cycling route, traditional events and prominent connections towards Metković and the Croatian Adriatic coast.

Culture

Thirty monuments were found at the Grabovine site in Zvirići. Grabovine includes 16 chest-shaped Stećaks, and twelve monuments at the site are also decorated. The necropolis in Zvirići also represents different craft traditions: the master workshop that worked at the necropolis in Zvirići differed from the one active in the upper part of Studenci. Thus, alongside the surviving forms, the relationships between the find sites and the workshops also remain visible.

History

Another historical point of reference is the All Saints Church. It has been a gathering place in Zvirići for 50 years. Work at the All Saints Church was completed in 1971 and 1972. Together with the Stećak necropolises and the Grabovine site, this means that various concrete testimonies belong to the history of the village, with their names, forms and dates each retaining their own place.

Cycling

The L202 cycling route runs via Bagin Most, Hardomilje, Zvirići, Studenci, the Kravica Waterfall and Hrašljani before returning to Ljubuški. The L202 route is 33 km long and offers good conditions for mountain biking. Its course names several places and the Kravica Waterfall along one continuous route; at the same time, the return to Ljubuški remains part of the route.

Events

The Zvirićke večeri traditionally take place at the beginning of August. The Zvirićka večer was held for 20 consecutive years.

Geographical location

Grabovine is located directly next to the R 423 regional road Teskera–Hardomilje–Zvirići–Prud. For further geographical orientation, the Zvirići–Prud border crossing leads towards Metković. The Bijača–Nova Sela border crossing is located on the Bosnia and Herzegovina motorway towards Ploče and the Croatian Adriatic coast. This clearly distinguishes Grabovine’s direct location on the regional road from the two border connections mentioned.
