Holiday apartment in Osječani: Stećci, mosque and hilly landscape

On the Trijebnik site near the hamlet of Čeljadinovići by Osječani lies a medieval necropolis with 42 Stećci. There is also a spring known as Trijebnik near the necropolis. Osječani thus combines specific local references with medieval history and a named spring.

Culture and history

Osječani is one of the sites of medieval Stećak necropolises in the Goražde area. One of the oldest mosques in the Goražde area stands in Osječani; it was built in 1624. The mosque in Osječani was rebuilt in 1947, burned down during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and rebuilt again in 2000. The medieval necropolis and the mosque refer to different historical periods within the locality.

Landscape

The Osječani local community extends to an elevation of 1,350 metres. Osječani belongs to a group of local communities with pronounced hilly-mountainous terrain and higher elevations. The larger rural area group that includes Osječani contains extensive pastureland, particularly suitable for livestock grazing. The elevation limit and terrain refer to the local community, while the pastureland is assigned to the larger rural area group that includes Osječani.

Roads

The roads in the Osječani sub-area are unpaved and in very poor condition. There was no paved road connection between Goražde and the Osječani local community; the existing road ran through the territory of Republika Srpska. The first point concerns the roads in the sub-area, while the second concerns the connection between Osječani and Goražde.

Activities

One route runs from Goražde via Rorovi, Jabuka and Kriva Draga through Osječani and back to Goražde. The marked mountain-biking route runs from Hranjen to Ruda Glava. Osječani and the surrounding hilly landscapes are considered suitable for developing mountain biking.
