There’s more than one way to discover Hirschegg: cultural heritage, trails along the Breitach and various opportunities to get active each add their own touch. The Evangelical Kreuzkirche, a cultural trail featuring historic houses and barns, and the circular hike around Hirschegg give the village tangible points of interest. There are also activities for bikes, scooters and inline skates, as well as a play and adventure trail between Hirschegg and Riezlern. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment, consider whether culture, hiking or active pursuits should shape your vacation.

Cultural Trails and Architectural History

Built in 1953, the Kreuzkirche in Hirschegg is the first and only Evangelical mountain church in the Kleinwalsertal. The Walser Cultural Trail: Hirschegg Village Loop draws attention to old houses, barns and other witnesses to the past. Along the route, they bring centuries of history to life; information panels and an Outdooractive audio guide provide further explanations. A memorial chapel to fallen soldiers is the final stop on the Hirschegg Cultural Trail. It was built in 1935. This way, you can encounter local history both in the architectural history of the Kreuzkirche and along a trail with historic stops.

At the regional level, the Kleinwalsertal / Mittelberg Historic ArchiTour includes historic village walks to selected examples of Kleinwalsertal architecture. Former village inns are the focus. This offers a distinct perspective on historic buildings and their former role in the village landscape.

Trails Along the Breitach

In Hirschegg and the hamlets of Au, Wäldele, Letze, Nebenwasser and Dürenboden, you’ll find trails alongside babbling streams, rock formations and viewpoints. The circular hike around Hirschegg is a walking trail with panoramic views and several places to relax. It follows the Breitach and passes a sulfur spring with a fountain and benches. The stream, spring and resting spots offer distinct points along the way; panoramic views add vistas of the landscape to the walk.

The Rohrweg Nature Experience Area has a Kneipp footbath and reclining loungers, with views across Hirschegg. So, in addition to the trails, the footbath and loungers offer their own ways to spend part of your vacation day.

Activity on the Circuit and Along the Way

The Hirschegg pump track at the Au sports field offers a free circuit for bicycles, scooters and inline skates. It can be used seasonally when conditions are free of snow. Another cycling option is the mountain bike route, which starts at the Walserhaus in Hirschegg, leads into the Schwarzwassertal and returns to the starting point. The circuit at the sports field and the route from the Walserhaus differ in format: one centers on the circuit itself, while the other is a ride into the Schwarzwassertal and back.

The Burmi Trail is a play and adventure trail along the Breitach between Hirschegg and Riezlern. Several play stations feature along the route. You can reach it on Walserbus line 1 via the Walserhaus Hirschegg stop. When planning your day, you can decide whether to include the play stations, choose a walking trail or use one of the cycling options.

Choose the Right Focus for Your Vacation

When looking for a holiday apartment, the kind of day you want can be a useful starting point. Cultural trails and buildings offer a different experience from a walk by the Breitach, spring and resting spots; for cycling, you can choose between a circuit and a mountain bike route. Consider which of these experiences you’d most like to make time for during your vacation.
