Local history between the parish church and the cheesemaking school

A historical starting point is Doren's present-day parish church, which was consecrated in 1823. Another significant reference point in regional development is Austria's first cheesemaking school, which opened in Doren in 1901. Both dates represent different aspects of the village: the parish church points to its religious history, while the cheesemaking school reflects the importance of the cheese industry. The listed Bozenau footbridge provides an additional point of interest. It connects Doren and Alberschwende and gave Alberschwende access to the Wälderbähnle.

Trails for different ideas for a day out

The family-friendly StandWOrtWeg circular trail begins at Doren municipal office and leads through the Sulz and Hüttersberg hamlets. It offers beautiful views of the Bregenzerwald mountains. With its tasks involving perspective games, observation, puzzles and philosophical questions, the trail is suitable as a shared experience in which not only walking but also looking closely plays a role. The Achtalweg is available for a longer walking or cycling tour. The walking and cycle path follows the former route of the Wälderbahn through Egg, Lingenau, Langenegg and Doren. The adapted section of the former Wälderbahn route between Egg and Doren is just under 10 kilometres long. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore also consider whether you would like to plan Doren as the starting point for a route with railway history. A shorter walking option is the water trail from Doren to Langenegg: it is around 1.5 km long and offers benches for taking a break.

Family experiences and natural surroundings

The adventure course is a low-rope climbing park in the forest next to Doren's football pitch. It is aimed at families with children aged 2 to 10 who enjoy climbing and balancing, and it is free of charge. The course can be reached via a signposted farm track through the forest. The Sportplatz stop on line 25 is located in the immediate vicinity. The Bozenau Naturspielraum complements this offering with a football pitch, a slackline area and a natural bike track. It serves as a play and open-air space for children, young people and families.

The surrounding area also influences the choice of accommodation. Doren preserves largely intact agricultural structures within an unspoilt landscape. The open Gschlief landslide slope lies directly in front of the village centre. Doren is also one of the municipalities in the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park.
