Discover Grossraming: Planet Trail, the Enns and local history
Accommodation in Grossraming
Grossraming brings together unusual scales, activities on the water and traces of mining and rural culture. When planning your holiday, you can choose from different focuses: a journey through the solar system, activities on the water, summit routes or insights into local history. This lets you shape your stay around the experiences that interest you most.
Planet Trail, Water and Activities
The Planet Trail is a hike from the Sun to Neptune. At a scale of 1:1 billion, it stretches for 4.5 kilometres and follows hiking trail E46 to the Welser farm. The sequence of planets gives the hike a clear theme; the stated distance helps you plan it as a dedicated part of your day.
On the Enns, Floß & Co offers raft trips in the national park community of Großraming. The landing point for all raft trips is opposite GH Stangl at Eisenstraße 66, 4463 Großraming. At the canoe rental, you can choose between exploring the river independently in boats for two to three people and joining guided tours. A floating pontoon with an access bridge at the leisure centre by Aschatal campsite provides access to the water for swimming, stand-up paddling and canoeing. Check local conditions before use.
Those who want to compare different activity options will find 18 stations with around 50 elements for climbing, balancing, swinging, jumping and tinkering at the Motorik-Fun-Park Großraming. Right next to it is a 400-metre-long pump track with rollers, bends and jumps for bicycles, scooters and balance bikes. A wide range of stations is thus complemented by a clearly defined course.
Trails and Summits as Excursion Destinations
The Gschwendtalm–Gamsstein route starts and ends in Grossraming. From Gschwendtalm, you reach Gamsstein via steep meadows and through forests. Mountain conditions vary by season and may change; take the time of year and conditions into account when planning. Another named route is the Guck-Naz circular hiking trail, which continues over the Schartenmauer to the summit of Haingrabeneck, at an elevation of 841 metres. These destinations and trail sections offer different points of reference for days when a mountain hike is the main focus.
Mining, Museums and Local History
Along the Knappenweg, 22 information panels describe the economic importance of mining, as well as the living and working conditions and the social circumstances of miners and their families. The trail offers insights into the 50-year history of the former coal mining industry. In this way, it connects economic development with the everyday lives of those who lived and worked there.
Other landmarks also shed light on the town’s history in different ways. The oldest parts of today’s Großraming parish church date back to 1513. The Leopold-von-Buch monument is a geological natural monument featuring around 20 granite blocks of different sizes amid limestone and sandstone formations. Rosi Gruber’s private nativity scene museum displays 300 nativity scene exhibits. The local heritage room at the Gruber Carriage Museum contains more than 600 exhibits relating to farming, woodworking and various trades, as well as rarities of rural cultural heritage. Visits to the local heritage room are possible by appointment; carriage rides at the carriage museum are also available on request.
For cycle tourists, the Enns Cycle Path R7 follows the Enns in the direction of Weyer. The carriage museum is described as a worthwhile stop in Grossraming. This makes it possible to consider the museum as a cultural highlight when exploring the route of the cycle path.
