Discover Andorf: History and Routes
Accommodation in Andorf
A typical Innviertel four-sided farmstead, Gothic and Baroque architectural history, and routes for walking and cycling give Andorf a varied character. You can get to know the town through its agricultural history or focus your stay more on outdoor activities and nature. The different themes offer a range of ways to explore the area.
Agricultural architecture at Brunnbauerhof
Brunnbauerhof is a typical Innviertel four-sided farmstead: the complex includes a timber-block residential building, two solidly built stables, and a barn constructed using traditional carpentry techniques. The different building methods make the parts of the farm easy to distinguish. The furnishings also tell a story spanning a long period: the original furniture dates from between 1806 and 1910 and offers an impression of rural living conditions and historic farming techniques.
In 1994, Brunnbauerhof became the first open-air museum in the Innviertel region. It is an important part of the Pramtal Museum Route and serves as a meeting place for traditional customs and the preservation of rural life in earlier times. The architecture, furnishings, and cultural role come together: the farmstead represents not only individual buildings but also the history of everyday rural life.
Churches and Andorf’s cultural history
The parish church in Andorf was built around 1350 in the Gothic style, replacing the church that stood there at the time. Between 1665 and 1670, a Baroque altar replaced the Gothic high altar; it most likely came from the workshop of Ried sculptor Thomas Schwanthaler. The parish church thus traces a shift from Gothic architectural history to Baroque furnishings, while the attribution of the altar is probable rather than certain.
St. Sebastian’s Church, also known as Ried Church, stands in Ried. It is a unified early Baroque building and is considered the first Baroque church in the surrounding area. The monument to Franz Xaver Gerl provides another link to the area’s cultural history: it was erected in 1977 to mark the 150th anniversary of his death. Gerl was born in Andorf and was a Mozart singer, composer, and friend of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
There is also a recurring cultural event in early September: every year, a festival with a varied program of events takes place around the Pramtal Dumpling Trail. The specific program may vary. If you are planning your stay around the festival, you can check the dates and that year’s program in advance.
Hiking and cycling routes of varying lengths
The Auen-Runde Rainwanderung is a clearly defined option for a hike: the 8.6-kilometer circular route starts and ends at the VVA grounds in Andorf. Another hiking route from Andorf passes the Moosleithen nature reserve; information boards along the way provide details about the protected area. This route offers a separate way to combine the landscape with information about Moosleithen. Trail conditions can change, so it is worth checking the latest information before setting out.
The Teuflauer-Holz-Runde also starts and ends in the center of Andorf and crosses the Pram on its way back to town. On the Haula-Schulleredt-Runde, views from the highest point stretch from the Sauwald to the arc of the Alps; visibility depends on conditions. The routes therefore appeal to different interests: a circular hike, a route connected to the Pram, or a tour where the view from the highest point is a highlight.
Two cycling routes with different total distances are described. The signposted R1 Wastlwirtrunde starts and ends in Andorf and is 15 kilometers long. The R3 Innviertler Panorama- und Museumstour also starts in Andorf and returns there; it is signposted as R9 and covers 42 kilometers. The Wastlwirtrunde is therefore the shorter of the two cycling routes mentioned, while the Panorama and Museum Tour offers a considerably longer option.
Outdoor activities and swimming times
The Andorf Motorikpark is open year-round and is designed for families, school classes, clubs, and seniors. It complements the hiking and cycling routes with an activity park that explicitly caters to these groups. For families planning a trip, this makes it different from the route options: rather than a specific circular route, it is a facility for physical activity that can be used throughout the year.
At the Andorf outdoor pool, opening hours in 2026 depend on the weather and water temperature. In fine weather, swimming starts daily at 9:30 a.m.; closing time is then between 7 and 8 p.m. Swimming times are therefore subject to conditions and are not set by a fixed schedule alone.
Getting here and choosing a holiday destination
Andorf is accessible by car, bus, or train and lies directly on the B 137 and the Wels–Passau railway line. If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Andorf, you can choose where to stay based on your interests: Brunnbauerhof and the churches provide a cultural and historical focus, while hiking and cycling routes, the Motorikpark, and the outdoor pool bring other activities to the fore. The distances given make it easy to compare the cycling routes without equating them with a hike or its demands.
