Schildorn combines a rural landscape with a long history and musical tradition. The village lies on the edge of the Kobernaußerwald and the Hausruckwald; gentle hills and farmland characterize the surrounding area. Hiking trails, the parish church and music offer different ways to explore during your stay. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can decide whether to focus mainly on the trails and local history or also plan visits to regional destinations.

Hiking trails between wayside chapels and views across the Innviertel

The hiking trails are a practical way to explore the landscape. The 2008 municipal hiking map describes them as well marked: they pass numerous wayside shrines and chapels and offer views across the Innviertel from many points. The same map also describes the trails as family cycling routes. This means hiking and cycling are available as different options, accompanied by religious landmarks and views of the region. According to information dated September 4, 2026, the municipality lists the hiking trails as open daily from 00:00 to 23:59. Check the hours before setting out, as they may change.

Church history and traces of earlier times

Schildorn Parish Church dates back to 1067. Saint Martin is the parish patron; on the altar, he is depicted as a bishop sharing his cloak with a beggar. This scene connects the parish’s history with a specific depiction of its patron saint. The area is also associated with earlier history: the Roman main road from Wels to Burghausen ran through Schildorn. A medieval castle site was located in the parish of Schildorn between Lohnsburg and Pattighamer Hochkuchl. A castle site is the former location of a castle; its exact location is uncertain.

Music, festivals and running traditions

The Schildorn Traditional Costume Band was founded in 1801 and is one of Upper Austria’s oldest music associations. The Schildorn Summer Night is one example of its events program: in 2019, it was held at the Gemeindeplatz for at least the fourth time. The program that year included an open-air concert by the Traditional Costume Band, followed by DJ music featuring oldies as well as popular and dance music. In 2018, the local Maypole Festival was held at the Doblmaier Triangle beside a decorated maypole.

The Schildorn Three Kings Run also offers a glimpse of past sporting events. The 2019 edition listed routes of 9.5 km, 14 km, 18 km and 30 km. A 2019 report noted that, in the preceding years, the run had been a regular fixture on the event calendar for some members of the Grieskirchen Cycling Club. The route distances show the different options available that year. If you are considering the run as a reason to travel, check the current edition separately.

Regional highlights to consider when choosing a location

For water-based recreation, the swimming lake in the neighboring municipality of Pramet is one option. Ried im Innkreis, the district capital, adds a wide range of shopping and dining options. Ried can be reached from Schildorn in about 15 minutes by car. When choosing a holiday apartment, consider the kind of holiday you want: are hiking trails and local history your main priorities, or would you also like to include water-based recreation, shopping and dining? These interests can give your search for a suitable holiday apartment in Schildorn a clear direction.
