Sillian: Mountain, River and Culture

Sillian lies right at the foot of the Thurntaler, which rises to 2,400 metres. On the Thurntaler, the local mountain of Sillian, there is an extensive hiking area at an altitude of 2,100 metres. The altitude figures refer to two different things: 2,400 metres describes how high the mountain rises, while 2,100 metres indicates the location of the hiking area. Thurntaler and the Drau Cycle Path

The Drau Cycle Path runs along the river through the market town of Sillian. The finds offer a tangible reminder of the building’s former use as a cinema, while the technical equipment and posters turn the spotlight on cinema and photography. Parish Church and Pillory Column

The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary in Sillian was first mentioned in official records in 1326 and renovated several times over the centuries. The pillory column in Sillian is described as the only surviving medieval pillory column in Tyrol. The two sites represent different historical themes: the church is notable for its first documented mention and history of renovations, while the column is notable as a surviving medieval object. Together, these cultural landmarks span the period from the former cinema to historical buildings and memorial sites.
