Landeck between Castle Culture, River Landscapes and Hiking Trails

Landeck combines a distinctive history with trails through a diverse landscape. The town lies at the confluence of the Sanna and Inn rivers and at the crossroads of the mountain passes over the Arlberg, Reschen Pass and Fern Pass. Landeck Castle as a Cultural Centrepiece

Landeck Castle was built around 1290 as a castle and seat of the court and administration. The tour of Landeck Castle leads up staircases in the tower to a viewing platform. The permanent exhibition “Stay or Leave” explores the history of North Tyrol and considers life both at home and far away.

The parish church in Landeck also has roots reaching back to the 5th century. The Landeck–Kaltenbrunn pilgrimage trail begins here. It leads past Landeck Castle and along the Via Claudia Augusta towards Fließ. In the area of the castle, the Via Claudia Augusta once left the hillside, presumably because a road station was located there and the road to the Arlberg branched off. This historic connection can be included as a separate focus in your travel plans without limiting your stay to a single theme.

Trails, Water and Nature around Landeck

For a change of pace from the cultural sights, the 4.3 km circular hike “Landeck – Trams Circuit” is ideal. It leads from Landeck parish church through Kuckuckswald forest to the Trams recreational area and Tramser Weiher, before returning to Landeck parish church. The route is therefore a clearly defined way to combine the town, forest and water in a single circuit.

Großer Tramser Weiher is an old, artificially created water reservoir on a terrace above Landeck on the north-western slope of the Venet massif, the Krahberg. The pond, covering approximately 6,000 square metres, is a habitat for more than 30 dragonfly species and numerous rare amphibians, including common frogs and European common toads. Those travelling with children can include observing animals and the landscape in their daily plans alongside a hike.

The first stage of the Tyrolean Castles Trail offers a longer excursion. It starts at Landeck Castle, leads to Biedenegg Castle in Fließ and covers 15.8 km before returning to Landeck Castle. This provides different formats to choose from when planning your trip: a tour with a viewpoint, a 4.3 km circuit around the pond or a stage centred on castles.

Music, Market and Practical Information

Landeck’s cultural programme includes concerts ranging from modern music and jazz to classical music. The DIALOGRAUM KIRCHE project aims to present treasures of church music and musical gems from various eras through to contemporary music in Landeck’s churches, while also enabling personal encounters with the artists. The weekly Landeck Fresh Market in the centre complements these impressions with local delicacies and specialities that can be sampled on site.
