Discover Inzing: Nativity Scenes, Trails and Nature

Inzing lies at the foot of the flat Rangger Köpfl and combines special nativity scene traditions with circular trails, nature experiences and opportunities for relaxing days outdoors. If you would like to combine different interests during your holiday, you will find several clearly distinct points of interest here: culture in and around the parish church, hikes through the landscape, an outdoor swimming pool and regional products along the Inntal Genuss-Radweg cycle route.

Nativity Scenes, Church and the Inzing Schlössl

One of the town’s special features is the church nativity scene. It is the largest and oldest Oriental nativity scene in Inzing and was created in 1861 by Felix Zimmerling, a hermit from Thaur and pilgrim to Jerusalem. The nativity scene landscape does not stand alone: a guide published by the Inzing Nativity Scene Association lists around 50 large nativity scenes in Inzing. The nativity scenes remain on display from Christmas until 20 January. Larger groups can register and receive information as well as a guided tour.

The parish church is also one of the cultural points of interest. The veneration of the “Mother of God of Inzing” is cultivated there; numerous votive tablets bear witness to the trust of pilgrims from all over Tyrol. Around the Feast of the Visitation of Mary on 2 July, local residents meet for the “mountain blessing” at one of the chapels in the foothills around Hof, Gigglberg, Eben or Schindeltal, where they attend Holy Mass and enjoy a sociable gathering.

Above the church stands a tower that is now known as the “Schlössl”. The Knights of Eben were first mentioned in official documents in 1227 and moved into this tower. The history of the town can therefore be explored on a cultural walk, alongside its religious tradition and nativity scene art.

Circular Trails and the Gaisau Natural Area

The Inzing themed trail is ideal for active days during your holiday. The circular hiking trail is 8 kilometres long and starts and ends at the car park of the outdoor swimming pool in Inzing. The themed trail highlights the Gaisau wetland and bird sanctuary. The nature reserve is one of the last remaining alluvial forest areas in the Inn Valley and one of the most important bird-breeding areas in the Inn Valley. Anyone interested in landscapes and birds can therefore specifically include this natural area in their day’s plans.

Another option is a historical circular tour. It starts in Inzing, follows partly ancient paths to Hof and Toblaten and then returns to Inzing. After the ascent, guests can fortify themselves with a traditional alpine snack at the Inzinger Alm. The different routes thus offer different ways of exploring the town: the themed trail combines exercise with the Gaisau natural area, while the historical circular tour focuses more strongly on paths, places and history.

Free Time, Water and Regional Products

For a more leisurely day, the Inzing outdoor swimming pool offers open-air swimming as well as a 9,500-square-metre sunbathing lawn with shade-providing trees. Along the Inntal Genuss-Radweg cycle route, 24 stations offer culinary products such as bee honey, schnapps and fruit. This complements the cultural and scenic experiences with a regional aspect of the holiday.

When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Inzing, you can therefore consider which mix of experiences should be the focus for your travel group. Culture enthusiasts can plan around the nativity scenes, parish church and Schlössl; for hiking enthusiasts, the 8-kilometre circular trail, the historical tour and the Inzinger Alm are the main attractions. Anyone wanting to combine nature with relaxing hours can add Gaisau and the outdoor swimming pool. This means that Inzing is not reduced to a single activity as a holiday destination.
