Discover Längenfeld: Water, Culture and Trails

Längenfeld combines warm thermal water, Ötztal culture and diverse trails through the mountain landscape. If you do not want to plan every day at the same pace during a family holiday, you will find ideas here for relaxing, cultural and active days. When choosing your holiday apartment, you can take the focus of your stay into account: water experiences, a museum visit, hiking, cycling or winter sports each create a different emphasis.

Thermal Water and Culture in the Ötztal

AQUA DOME has 12 indoor and outdoor pools with water temperatures of 34 to 36 °C. The thermal water comes from a depth of 1,865 metres and supplies almost all 12 indoor and outdoor pools with 10 percent thermal water. Anyone wishing to set aside time for warm water during their holiday can deliberately incorporate this focus into their daily plans.

The local history and open-air museum in Lehn, a district of Längenfeld, offers a completely different way of discovering the region. It documents the cultural and everyday history of the Ötztal. The site includes around 16 historic buildings; visitors can also try traditional practices for themselves and experience them with all their senses. This makes a museum visit an opportunity to learn about regional history not only through exhibits, but also through practical impressions.

Trails for Active Holiday Days

More than 40 kilometres of hiking trails lead through the municipality of Längenfeld, passing many small hamlets. The landscape around Längenfeld includes steep mountain slopes, high-mountain lakes and hikes to high-alpine destinations reaching the 3,000-metre mark. When planning, you can therefore choose between trails in the valley and more demanding destinations in the high mountains, without making every holiday day the same.

For those interested in Nordic walking, there is a Nordic Fitness Park in the district of Huben. It is licensed by the Austrian Nordic Walking Association and has been awarded the park quality seal. The Reinhard Schiestl via ferrata also offers a special mountain experience: it climbs almost vertically upwards over 300 climbing metres and 200 metres of elevation gain and is secured throughout with a steel cable, clamps and step rungs.

Cycling and Winter Activities

Stage 4 of the Ötztal Cycling Route from Längenfeld to Sölden starts at the sports field in Längenfeld and follows a paved path inland, running parallel to the Ötztaler Ache. The entire Ötztal Cycling Route runs for more than 50 km from Haiming at 670 m to Sölden at 1,377 m through five climate zones. Those choosing a holiday apartment as a base for cycling days can use it to distinguish between a specific stage and the route’s wider course.

The Ötztal also offers clear guidance for cross-country skiing enthusiasts: in the valley basin, the cross-country trails cover more than 60 km, while the entire Ötztal has 20 km of skating pistes. For a trip with changing interests, Längenfeld can therefore be regarded as a starting point for warm-water experiences, culture and exercise. The gorge created by the Fischbach can be reached from the centre of Längenfeld after a few minutes’ walk and adds a natural experience close to the village to the selection.

Choose the Right Focus

If you are primarily planning cultural activities, Lehn is the relevant district name to use for orientation. For the Nordic Fitness Park, the location name Huben indicates the appropriate destination area. This creates no rigid itinerary, but rather a holiday in which you can switch between exercise, regional history and relaxation.

For further orientation, dedicated destination pages are available for Gries, Au, Huben, Oberlängenfeld, Unterlängenfeld, Winklen, Burgstein and Oberried.
