The name Gattererberg probably comes from a gate that is said to have separated the two mountains beside the Märzenbach. The farms on Gattererberg were established as Schwaighöfe. In addition to livestock, they mainly had to supply cheese and loden cloth. This history connects the landscape with the former duties of the farms and with rural production.

A specific example of living tradition was the return home of the cows belonging to the Kröll and Bichler families. On Sunday, 15 September 2024, the cows returned from Märzengrund to Almluft on Gattererberg and to their home stables. For 25 years, the Kröll and Bichler families have placed importance on this return taking place in a modest and down-to-earth setting.
