Discover Scheifling: Culture, Trails and Family Experiences
Accommodation in Scheifling
Scheifling combines living tradition, cultural attractions and a wide range of activities for different kinds of travel days. Around the town, you can combine an annual festival, historic architecture, art, a hiking route accessible year-round and experiences with animals.
Culture and Tradition in Scheifling
A regular event in the annual calendar is the Scheiflinger Kirta. It takes place every year on the first Sunday in July. The traditional Tobacco Smokers’ Song is also performed at the Kirta; it begins with the words “Am Sunntag ist Scheiflinger Kirta, da kemman die Tabakracher zsamm”. Anyone wishing to discover local customs will find a specific reason here to visit Scheifling at a suitable time of year.
The local heritage museum is housed in a 400-year-old wooden building, the “Keuschn in der Gass’n”. As a small museum, it offers an insight into local history and everyday life. The Pipe Museum is another cultural attraction. For both buildings, visits and guided tours are available only by prior telephone appointment. You should take this into account when planning your day and choosing accommodation if a museum visit is part of your travel plans.
The Roman Catholic Scheifling parish church, dedicated to Saint Thomas, is also part of a cultural tour through Scheifling. The church and the former cemetery are protected monuments. The church is Romanesque in essence and is partly surrounded by the wall of the former cemetery. Another special place is the Hirt-Haus Atelier, founded in Scheifling in 1984 by sculptors Rudolf Hirt and Angelika Hirt-Thomsen. Regional and international artists exhibit there.
Outings with Children and Active Days
Scheifling offers families with different interests several clearly distinct outing ideas. At the Schrattenberg Pony Farm, children can learn to ride from the age of three. Riding lessons are offered on ponies and small horses and take place by telephone appointment. This allows you to include a visit specifically in your travel plans without starting the day with a fixed appointment that has not been coordinated.
More than 40 different species and around 250 animals live at the Scheifling wildlife park and adventure farm, in the park grounds around the Prieler farm. During a walk through the wildlife park, visitors can observe and photograph numerous wild, domestic and farm animal species at close range. This particularly appeals to travel groups wishing to combine an outing with exercise and animal watching.
If you would rather plan a hike, you can make a note of the “W75: Via Steinschloss” route. It ends at Scheifling railway station and can be walked year-round. The railway station as the endpoint gives the route a clear finish, while its year-round accessibility provides greater flexibility when planning your trip. The pond at the Freisambad is also of interest to cyclists, as it is located directly on the Mur Cycle Path. A Murtalbahn stop is two minutes from the Freisambad.
Which Accommodation Suits Your Plans?
When looking for accommodation in Scheifling, it is worth sorting out your preferred experiences in advance. For culture enthusiasts, the Kirta, local heritage museum, Pipe Museum, parish church and Hirt-Haus Atelier can form the focus of the trip. Families can combine riding lessons with a visit to the wildlife park, while hikers can consider the W75 and cyclists the Mur Cycle Path. This makes choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home part of a specific travel plan, without requiring the individual days to be scheduled in advance.
