Sankt Marein im Mürztal: Rent a Holiday Apartment or Holiday Home
Accommodation in Stanz in the Mürztal
Sankt Marein im Mürztal combines the mountain landscape of the Rennfeld with the cultural sites of Frauenberg and the town centre. If you want to rent a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is worth first choosing the focus of your stay: a longer mountain hike, the architectural history of Maria Rehkogel, or visits to individual churches. These destinations offer different points of reference for the actual location of your accommodation.
Rennfeld: High Plateau and Challenging Ascents
The Rennfeld reaches 1,629 metres and forms a broad high plateau that runs from west to east. The municipal boundaries of Sankt Marein im Mürztal, Bruck an der Mur and Pernegg an der Mur meet at the summit. It is also the highest point in Sankt Marein. One section of the Central Alpine Trail crosses the summit.
The ascents described involve around 1,000 to 1,200 metres of elevation gain. This makes for a different kind of hiking day than a short walk around town. Access routes are listed from Bruck an der Mur via Kaltbachgraben and Glanzgraben, from Kapfenberg via Frauenberg, from Pernegg via Gabraun-Graben, and from Breitenau am Hochlantsch. Choose your actual starting point before assessing the location of a holiday apartment.
The Ottokar-Kernstock shelter stands a few metres below the summit at an altitude of 1,620 metres. Its location is a specific landmark on the mountain. If you plan to include the hut in your hiking day, check its opening hours and catering availability with the operator for your intended date.
Maria Rehkogel: Late Gothic Church and Baroque Addition
The pilgrimage site of Maria Rehkogel is in Frauenberg, in Sankt Marein im Mürztal. A chapel dating from 1354 was followed by a Late Gothic church in 1489. A Baroque-style extension was added in 1769. The organ by Anton Römer dates from 1775 and has 19 stops and 872 pipes.
These architectural phases make the site interesting for a culture-focused visit. The pilgrimage tradition goes back centuries. However, you should check separately for current event dates or the possibility of visiting the interior. The hiking trail from Sankt Marein to the Ottokar-Kernstock-Haus passes Maria Rehkogel; this describes a connection between the cultural site and the mountain trail without suggesting that the entire tour is short or easy.
Other Cultural Sites and Choosing the Right Location
In town, the parish church is dedicated to Saint Anne. The Chapel of Saint Sebastian in the old cemetery was built around 1490. These local cultural sites offer a different focus from the Rennfeld high plateau.
When choosing a holiday apartment, therefore, compare its exact address with your chosen mountain access point or cultural destination. Accommodation within the municipality need not be right next to the church or the start of your preferred route. The actual location and the services offered by each property are what matter; guided excursions, views or transfers are not automatically included.
