The history of the town includes the Old Parish Church in Niklasdorf, which is protected as a historic monument under the relevant ordinance. A papal bull issued by Pope Eugene III in 1148 mentions the church in Michilindorf. After a fire in 1480 destroyed the wooden roof structure and the sacristy, an inscription discovered during restoration work in 1837 led to the conclusion that the Old Parish Church was rebuilt in 1499.

A more striking feature is the water tower with what is probably the world’s largest label. The label was designed in 1998 by Georg Brandner together with Brigl & Bergmeister and the Niklasdorf municipal office to mark the celebration of the town’s elevation to market-town status and its 850th anniversary. In Niklasdorf, historical traces therefore meet an unusual modern detail of the town.

Events on Mugel

Every year on 30 December from 2 p.m., Bauernsilvester takes place on Mugel, specifically at the Mugel mountain refuge.
