Gamlitz: Wine Trails, Movement and Culture
Accommodation in Gamlitz
Gamlitz is part of the South Styrian Nature Park and offers plenty of ways to plan a day of your vacation: exercise by the landscape ponds, paths through vineyards, views and a multimedia experience about water, as well as art and wine. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can consider which of these interests you would like to shape your stay in particular.
Exercise at the Motorikpark and on wine trails
The Motorikpark Gamlitz is located around the Gamlitz landscape ponds and features 41 stations and almost 150 training variations. Activities include a balance course, sensory trail, climbing tour and earth-wave running. The stations are designed for groups of all ages. For families or other groups travelling together with people of different ages, this makes it a useful option to consider; at the same time, the various formats bring together different types of movement.
The hiking trails also lead through a varied wine-growing landscape. In Gamlitz, they pass through districts such as Sulztal, Labitschberg and Eckberg. If you would like to focus on vineyards and these place names as landmarks while hiking, you can plan the trails as a highlight in their own right. One named route is the Cäcilien Rosenweg: it leads from Regele Keuschn to Buschenschank Trunk and offers scenic views. This gives you different ways to find your way: the named districts along the vineyard trails or the two endpoints of the rose trail.
Water tower, views and art
The Weinleiten water tower combines a viewpoint with a theme centred on water. The tower is 27 metres high, and its observation deck offers views across the South Styrian wine country. Visitors can also use an app to experience the journey of water to Gamlitz through multimedia. The views and app experience offer two different ways to engage with the same place: taking in the landscape and learning about the journey of water.
Those wishing to include art in their stay will find more than 1,000 works by Günther Orban at the Orban Museum. The museum presents a changing exhibition each year. The extensive collection and annual change make a visit a different kind of discovery from outdoor activities: the focus is on the works and the exhibition on display at the time.
Experience wine and plan your stay
There are also various options for wine enthusiasts. The Grasmuck winery and vine nursery offers the tour “From vine to wine.” Visitors can taste wine at wineries in Gamlitz; the dates offered by individual wineries may vary, so it is worth coordinating your visit in advance. During a cellar tour, you can learn more about wine production and the personal stories of the winegrowers. An advance appointment may be required.
When looking for a holiday apartment, you can use your planned vacation activities as a guide. If you plan to spend several days on trails and exercise, compare possible locations based on the actual routes to the starting points that interest you. If your stay is more focused on culture or wine, the visits you want to make and any advance appointments may shape your plans.
