A protected moor lake, trails to chapels and hikes through alpine pastures give Taugl its distinctive character. Seewaldsee is known for its rich flora and fauna. On the right-hand side of the lake, a well-maintained forest road is suitable for families with pushchairs and wheelchair users. Check trail conditions before your visit; the route described is not a confirmed circular trail around the lake.

Water Landscapes and Nature Trails

In the Tauglboden area, the Tauglbach flows through gorges and past small waterfalls on its way into the valley. A hiking trail to the Strubklamm gorge also offers a free glimpse of this natural spectacle. These are distinct nature experiences with different landscapes: the stream with its gorges and waterfalls on the one hand, and the view into the Strubklamm gorge on the other. Check trail conditions before setting out on a hike.

The Trattberg offers a different kind of experience. Hiking there ranges from leisurely walks through alpine pastures to scenic circular tours across broad mountain ridges. You can reach the alpine pasture area via the scenic, toll road, the Trattberg Panoramic Road; check the toll conditions before driving. The Feuchter Keller natural show cave is near the car park at the end of the road. It is open to visitors seasonally, so check in advance when a visit is possible.

Hikes with Different Highlights

A children’s hike to the Bergalm starts at the Grundbichlalm inn and leads via Tauglboden; it takes about an hour, depending on conditions and your own pace. The TG21 St. Koloman: Bergalm Tour initially descends towards Tauglboden, then follows a gravel forest road from the Grundbichlalm to the Bergalm. The first hike is distinguished by its approximate one-hour walking time and its classification as a children’s hike; the TG21, by contrast, is defined by its initial descent and the gravel forest road. Trail conditions can change seasonally.

A signposted hike leads to Wilhelmskapelle at the foot of the Wilhelmswand. The chapel is one of Salzburg’s oldest sacred buildings and is considered a well-known place of spiritual energy. Those interested in spiritually themed trails will also find another special route in the Taugler Mundart Kreuzweg: this 3 km circular trail passes five chapels. Its compact circular route and succession of chapels give it a different character from the longer hikes through the alpine pasture area.

Culture and Local Highlights

In Sankt Koloman, the local history museum offers insights into everyday life in the region through farming tools, school supplies, rocks and models. The exhibits bring together social history and natural history, adding a cultural perspective to the trails and landscapes.

The Branterer Mill is used for demonstrations; in principle, it is open to anyone interested. Check access arrangements before visiting. The mill was probably built in the 18th century. The Taugl district is also home to the Gletscherschliff natural monument, on the road from Bad Vigaun to St. Koloman.

Taugler Körberl is a local sales cooperative for regionally produced goods, enabling customers to buy directly from producers. If you would like to shop there, check participation and collection options before travelling. In the centre of St. Koloman, Tauglerei serves internationally inspired dishes made with local ingredients. If you are planning a visit, it is advisable to check current opening arrangements in advance.

The Right Holiday Apartment for Your Plans

When looking for a holiday apartment in Taugl, your plans for your stay may help you decide: would you mainly like to hike, visit chapels, observe nature, or also include the local history museum and regional products? The trails differ in length, route and character; at Trattberg, the toll panoramic road is also part of the journey to the alpine pasture area. This lets you plan your stay to suit your own pace, without having to fit every outing into a single itinerary.
