Unterkirchbach combines nature watching and hiking: At the Hagenbachklamm bird of prey breeding station, around 100 birds of prey can be observed at close range. Hiking Trails and Natural Monument

The Hanging Stone is a popular excursion destination and has been declared a natural monument. The French Chapel is a destination for a walk in Unterkirchbach. The Tulbingerkogel route also passes through Oberkirchbach and Unterkirchbach, where it meets the Hanging Stone route.

Another tour leads from the car park to the French Chapel in Unterkirchbach. It is listed as approximately 4.0 kilometres and around 1 hour and 5 minutes. The elevation difference between the highest and lowest points is around 88 metres; the total ascent is listed as about 96 metres and the total descent as around 8 metres. The Hagenbachklamm in the Surrounding Area

In the wider region, the 3,800-hectare Eichenhain nature park lies between Klosterneuburg and St. Andrä-Wördern. The Hagenbachklamm is its centrepiece and lies in this part of the Vienna Woods. Along the Hagenbach, old, tall oaks, beeches and other deciduous trees provide shade. This wooded stream valley provides the landscape setting for hikes through the gorge.

A hiking trail leads from St. Andrä-Wördern through the Hagenbachklamm to the bird of prey breeding station in Unterkirchbach. For the period in question, a notice last amended on 6 August 2026 stated that the gorge was closed indefinitely due to extensive flood damage; the station could be reached via the Unterkirchbach entrance. This information describes the situation at that time, not the current conditions. Check the latest trail and station notices before setting out.
