Warth offers a range of ways to enjoy a holiday: well-marked hiking trails lead through wooded countryside, EuroVelo 9 runs through the municipality along the Pitten, and several castles represent different historical periods. There are also concerts by local bands and choirs, as well as festivals and markets throughout the year. When planning your trip together, you can weigh these themes according to your group’s interests.

Hiking Trails Through Forest and Countryside

Warth’s hiking trails are well marked and lead through wooded countryside. They offer beautiful views of the Bucklige Welt and the areas around Rax, Schneeberg and Wechsel. The forests and views give hiking a distinct place in your trip plans. If you are planning together, you can consider whether these landscapes or, instead, cycling and history should play a bigger part in your stay.

Cycling Along the Pitten and E-Biking

When cycling, it is helpful to distinguish between two routes: EuroVelo 9 runs through the municipality of Warth, following the Pitten through scenic countryside; Scheiblingkirchen-Warth station is named as a public transport access point for the Haßbachtal e-bike route. In Warth, e-bike charging stations are available at the market square, by Café-Bäckerei Fischböck and at Siaß'n Eck. Before setting off, check the route, connections and charging station availability.

Castle Ruins and Traces of History

Haßbach Castle Ruins stand directly above Haßbach; their origins are thought to date back to a 10th-century residential tower. Kirchau Castle Ruins lie in the forest, overgrown with trees. The two ruins therefore differ in their described locations. Steyersberg Castle, also known as Feste Steußberg, was probably built in the last third of the 12th century. Gutenbrunn was built in 1160 by Heinrich and Wilhelm von Kirchau.

The historical references range from presumed early origins to a building with a specific date. The later development of Steyersberg Castle can also be placed in a historical timeline: in 1600, Ehrenreich Wurmbrand-Stuppach acquired the castle and thereby took over the so-called “Vollherrschaft.” The narrow castle was subsequently expanded into a spacious, comfortable residence. The acquisition in 1600 and the later expansion were therefore distinct stages in the castle’s history.
