Kleinzell combines the landscape of the Lower Austrian foothills of the Alps with a variety of destinations for active and more leisurely holiday days. The village lies at an altitude of 470 m. Flower meadows, alpine pastures and forests characterise the natural landscape, complemented by crystal-clear mountain streams and fresh forest air. When choosing accommodation, it is therefore worth considering whether you would mainly like to spend your time on hiking trails, at a bathing pond, exploring the local culture or on the cross-country ski trail in winter.

Hiking to the Reisalpe and Ebenwaldhütte

A notable hiking route leads from Kleinzell via the Weißenbachalm, Zeißlalm and Kleinzeller Hinteralm to the summit of the Reisalpe. This hike is estimated to take around 3 hours. The approximate duration helps with planning your day if you would like to include a longer tour in your stay.

Another destination is the Ebenwaldhütte on the Ebenwaldhöhe. It lies at an altitude of 1,046 m amid the scenic hiking and touring area of the Gutenstein Alps. An asphalt road leads from Kleinzell towards Ebenwald. After 7 km, you reach a large car park; from there, the Ebenwaldhütte can be reached in around 15 minutes. A culinary highlight at the hut is its giant dumplings. This allows you to combine a hike with a specific regional speciality without choosing the same kind of daily itinerary as for the Reisalpe.

Those who would like to vary their activities can also obtain or hike for a hiking pin in Kleinzell. Bicycle rental is also available. A miniature golf course offers another activity.

Nature, Water and Winter Experiences

The Kalte Kuchl natural bathing pond is a bathing pond in Kleinzell and complements the mountain and forest landscape with a destination by the water. In winter, the village offers a 9 km cross-country ski trail described as snow-reliable. The Ebenwald panoramic trail is another sporting facility in Kleinzell. This allows you to choose between hiking days, time by the water and cross-country skiing when planning your trip.

For a different daily rhythm, the Salzerbad health resort has an indoor pool and a sauna. This option provides a separate focus alongside the natural and sporting destinations. When choosing your holiday apartment or accommodation, you can therefore consider which destinations should actually be part of your holiday and which location is important for your personal plans.

Church and Village History

Kleinzell's history can also be discovered on a stroll through the village. The church in Kleinzell was elevated to an independent parish church in 1330. Kleinzell parish church is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The original ribbed vault has been preserved in the chancel. Another architectural feature is the 56 steps leading from the village square up to the mountain chapel.

These different destinations offer several possible focuses for your stay: you can plan a hike to the Reisalpe, head for the Ebenwaldhütte, choose nature and water experiences or explore the area's ecclesiastical history. Accommodation in Kleinzell can therefore be selected according to your preferred daily rhythm and planned excursions, without having to fit all the available options into a single itinerary.
