Nature

Theth National Park is almost 90 % covered by extensive beech forests and is characterised by rich biodiversity. The Thethi River is also one of the landscape features of the national park. Among the most distinctive natural attractions is the Blue Eye of Theth, known in Albanian as Syri i Kaltër. It is an elliptical spring with deep blue hues, accessible via a longer hike through the canyon.

The Grunas Waterfall, also called Ujëvara e Thethit or Ujëvara e Grunasit, is a state-protected natural monument. It is approximately 25 metres high and about a 30-minute walk from the village of Theth. Grunas Canyon is one of the tourist attractions in Theth and adds another canyon landscape to the natural destinations around the village.

Culture

The Banesa e Lulash Kecit, also known as the Dukagjin Ethnographic Museum, is located within the Historic Centre. It is a Category I cultural monument. The Kulla e Nikoll Zef Koçekut, known as the Lock-in Tower, is also located within the Historic Centre and is likewise a Category I cultural monument.

The Church of Theth was built in 1892 and restored in 2005. The village’s architectural character also includes traditional guesthouses and residential buildings that preserve the region’s distinctive architecture. The Lock-in Tower, known in Albanian as Kulla e ngujimit, is a monument to historical and moral memory. Thus, alongside its mountain and forest landscapes, Theth also preserves tangible evidence of the region’s history.

Hiking

Theth has well-maintained paths for hiking and exploring. A trail to Theth Canyon begins near the old mill of Theth.

Geography

The road to Theth crosses Qafa e Tërthores, which lies at an elevation of approximately 2,000 metres. This mountain pass forms part of the geographical connection with the alpine village and complements the image of a place shaped by mountain landscapes, canyons, forests and the river.
