History

The Church of Shën Kollit in Peshtan is a Byzantine church. According to its inscription, it was built in 1142 and rebuilt in 1861. Historically, a service was held there on December 6 with participation from the surrounding region, accompanied by trade, cultural exchange and a communal feast. A historical bell associated with Peshtan bears an inscription dated April 17, 1938.

West of Peshtan stands the church of “Fjetja e Shën Mërisë.” It was built in 1893 by the master builder Dhamo Opari. The entire village, including its Bektashi residents, participated in its construction. A memorial to the poet was also inaugurated in Peshtan on the grounds of the house of Trifon Xhagjika.
