Camiri offers several distinct points of interest: the Serranía Sararenda protected area, walks and relaxation along the Río Parapetí, historic monuments, and a specific breakfast dish. When planning a trip, you can decide whether hiking, urban history or local food culture should take centre stage. This is also a good starting point when looking for a holiday rental: which side of Camiri would you like to get to know better during your stay?

Nature: Serranía Sararenda and Río Parapetí

The Serranía Sararenda protected area was established as a natural heritage conservation unit for the Camiri sector to protect and preserve the area’s natural resources. The protected area has hiking infrastructure. Those looking to include scenery and outdoor activity in their plans will find a tangible connection with nature here; check current trail conditions locally before setting out on a hike.

The banks of the Río Parapetí in Camiri are a good place for walks and relaxation; river conditions vary seasonally. The Serranía is primarily about hiking, while the riverbank offers both walks and relaxation.

Monuments and history

The Monumento al Tte. Gral. Germán Busch Becerra stands in Plaza 12 de Julio in Camiri. The bronze statue by sculptor Emiliano Lujan was inaugurated in 1962. This memorial site thus connects a named artist with a specific historical date.

At the intersection of Avenida Petrolera and Calle Méndez Aros stands the obelisk of the Monumento a la Seguridad Industrial. It commemorates 50 years of contributions by Camiri’s oil workers to national progress. While the Busch Becerra monument focuses on an individual, this memorial is dedicated to the oil workers and their contribution.

The Museo Histórico Militar de la Guerra del Chaco y las Guerrillas de Ñancahuazu is under the command of the Army’s 4th Division and opened on 12 July 2013. The building was originally the officers’ casino and is now called Casino Militar. Its former use and military affiliation give the museum a tangible connection to military history.

In northern Camiri are the Mirador and the monument to San Francisco de Asís, Camiri’s Catholic patron saint. Both were inaugurated and blessed on 4 October 1984. This makes it possible to compare different points of reference in the history of the monuments: the Busch Becerra monument, inaugurated in 1962, and the Mirador with the San Francisco monument, inaugurated and blessed in 1984.

A breakfast from Camiri

Camiri’s food culture also takes centre stage in a breakfast from the city. It consists of fried mote pelachi with chopped spring onion, homemade bread and an infusion of cedrón. This combination adds a culinary perspective on Camiri to its nature and history.

When looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: hiking, time by the river, historic sites or local food culture. Choose your accommodation according to which of these sides of Camiri you want to shape your stay.
