Siyəzən: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Siyazan Rayon connects the foothills of the Greater Caucasus with the Caspian coast within the Samur-Dəvəçi plain. Geographical setting

One of the distinctive landforms is Beşbarmaq Mountain, a brecciated limestone formation that rises to 445 metres and contains karst cavities. Altıağac National Park extends into the Siyazan Rayon and encompasses mountain forest, mountain meadows, semi-desert and forest steppe. The wild animals listed there include wolf, wild boar, quail, raccoon, hare, fox and squirrel.

History and culture

Gilgilçay Wall is described as the largest defensive wall built in Azerbaijan in the early Middle Ages. The Gilgilçay fortification complex, dating from the 5th century, runs through several villages in the Siyazan Rayon and connects to Çıraqqala. The city of Siyəzən includes Şəhərgah, a medieval settlement in its northern part.

The Heydər Əliyev Centre in Siyəzən exhibits books, photographs, diplomas and documents about the life and work of Heydər Əliyev. The Centre also has a carpet-weaving club that contributes to preserving traditional carpet production.

The Pir Xəlil Mausoleum is an intact monument from the 18th century in the settlement of Gil-Gilçay. The ruins of Dindar Fortress stand on a mountain summit about 3 kilometres west of the village of Sədan. The Sheikh Heydar Mausoleum dates from the 15th century and stands west of the remains of the old village of Shıxlar.

The ruins of the Karvansaray date from the 15th to the 17th century and are located beside the Baku–Dəvəçi highway. Çıraqqala stands on the Çaraqqaya cliff at an elevation of 1,232 metres. The complex was built in the 4th to 6th centuries as a watchtower for defence and served as the main watchtower of Gilgilçay Wall.

Cuisine

Fish dishes hold an important place in the cuisine of the Siyazan Rayon and can be ordered in restaurants and cafés.
