Nardaran is characterised by historic buildings, distinctive sand deposits and its coastline. The Nardaran Historical-Cultural Reserve encompasses 20 monuments.
Culture and History
Admission to the Nardaran Historical-Cultural Reserve is free; however, a special permit is required. Nardaran Fortress is classified as an architectural monument of global significance.
Nardaran Shrine is believed to mark the burial place of Rahima Khatun, the daughter of Imam Musa al-Kazim. After Azerbaijan regained its independence, Nardaran Shrine was reconstructed as a religious complex with a large dome and four tall minarets.
Historic buildings near Nardaran Shrine include a mosque built in 1307–1308, a 17th-century mosque and a caravanserai. The bathhouse used channels beneath its stone floor to distribute heated air and warm its rooms and floor. The Nardaran ABAD Ceramics and Applied Arts Centre regularly hosts ceramics master classes and training sessions.
Landscape
Wind-blown accumulations of sand around Nardaran form deposits 12 to 18 metres high. The Qalagah area, also known as Ümid rock, is associated with the period of the earliest settlements in the Gobustan Reserve.
Coast and Water
Nardaran’s beaches are recommended for a comparatively uncrowded, peaceful and romantic getaway. Surf Sea Breeze at the Sea Breeze Resort in Nardaran Village features Azerbaijan’s first artificial surf wave for learning, training and competitions.
