Experience the beaches, nature and culture of Phú Quốc
Accommodation in Phú Quốc
Phú Quốc combines a 150-kilometre coastline with gentle waves and clear turquoise water. The island’s scenery ranges from beaches and coral reefs to forest trails, waterfalls and cultural sites. Local products also shape the experience: fish sauce has a tradition here that spans more than 200 years. You can tailor your holiday-rental search to different plans—from the sea and days in nature to history and local cuisine.
Coastline, reefs and island views
At Bãi Dài, the coastline stretches for 15 kilometres, from Gành Dầu to Cửa Cạn. You can snorkel over colourful coral reefs there. Bãi Khem has a different character: this curved beach lies in the south of Phú Quốc and has white sand and clear blue-green water. At Mũi Ông Đội, visitors can watch both the sunrise and sunset from the same spot.
The Phú Quốc Marine Protected Area is also part of the island’s natural landscape. It covers more than 40,909 hectares within Phú Quốc National Park. The colourful nearshore reefs at Gành Dầu’s coral garden are well suited to snorkelling. Days by the water offer a range of experiences, from long coastlines and sandy beaches to reefs.
Forest trails, water and wildlife watching
From the entrance to the Suối Đá Bàn tourist area, it takes about 15 minutes to walk through the forest to the stream. This is an approximate guide; trail conditions may vary. An easy hike on Phú Quốc also leads to Suối Tranh waterfall, where visitors can swim. The Gành Dầu trail runs through large trees along a level walking route. Gành Dầu is one of four protected areas on the island where camping, birdwatching and hiking are possible.
Those interested in wildlife watching can find starfish in the clear turquoise water at Starfish Beach, near Rạch Vẹm village. Experienced hikers can take the Hàm Ninh mountain trail to a viewpoint overlooking the ocean. Giếng Tiên is a freshwater spring beside the beach that never dries up. Each of these natural sites offers something different, from forest trails and waterfalls to sea views and wildlife watching.
History, faith and special experiences
From the lighthouse shrine dedicated to the sea goddess, Dinh Cậu Temple offers views of the sunset over the harbour. At Dinh Cậu Pagoda, sailors and fishermen pray to the sea goddess before setting out. Every year, the Dinh Cậu Festival takes place at Dinh Cậu on Nguyễn Trung Trực Street in Dương Đông, on the 15th day of the tenth lunar month. The corresponding Gregorian date varies from year to year.
Phú Quốc Prison, also known as Nhà lao Cây Dừa, is in An Thới in the south of the island. It is recognised as a nationally significant historical monument and is open to visitors. Opening hours are 07:00 to 17:00; check before your visit, as operating details may change. Another cultural landmark, the Cao Đài temples on Phú Quốc represent a religion that combines elements of Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Confucianism, Hinduism, the belief in genies and Taoism.
From An Thới station, the 7,899.9-metre cable car runs to Hòn Thơm, passing over Hòn Dừa and Hòn Rỏi along the way. Check the schedule before planning a trip, as operating hours may change. The route connects several named islands and ends on Hòn Thơm in Phú Quốc.
Fish sauce, pepper and Hàm Ninh
Phú Quốc fish sauce has a tradition spanning more than 200 years and holds a recognised designation of origin in Europe. Visitors can learn more about pepper cultivation at pepper farms. Hàm Ninh is a fishing village associated with selling seafood and souvenirs to tourists. These three themes offer insight into the island’s products and trade, beyond its beaches and hiking trails.
Choose a holiday rental to suit your travel interests
When searching for a holiday rental, start by deciding which experiences matter most: beaches and snorkelling, nature trails, cultural sites or local products. If the cable car or the prison is part of your itinerary, An Thới is a specific location to use as a reference for your search; for beach days, Bãi Dài or Bãi Khem can help narrow your criteria. This way, you can choose accommodation that suits the focus of your trip.
