Temples reflecting diverse architectural and religious traditions, historic memorial sites, and landscapes with rocky islands and bodies of water give Biên Hòa several distinct ways to explore. Choosing the focus of your trip can help you select a vacation rental that better suits the experiences you want to define your stay.

Temples, Architecture and Living Traditions

Chùa Ông was built in 1684 and is considered the earliest Hoa temple built in Nam Bộ. In 2001, it was classified as a national historical and cultural monument. Visitors can admire its distinctive architecture, stone and wood carvings, reliefs, and finely crafted ceramic figures incorporating folk design elements. The figures worshipped here also reflect the temple’s religious diversity: they include Quan Công, Châu Xương, Quan Bình, Bà Thiên Hậu, Kim Huệ thánh mẫu, Mẹ Độ, Mẹ Sanh, and Quan Âm Bồ Tát. Chùa Ông welcomes visitors for sightseeing and temple visits; check the current visitor guidelines in advance.

The annual festival at Chùa Ông takes place from the 10th to the 13th day of the first lunar month. The program includes a ceremony for Quan Thánh Đế Quân, a procession, and lion and dragon dances. As the dates follow the lunar calendar, it is advisable to check the dates for your travel year before planning.

Chùa Long Thiền was built in 1664 and is considered one of the three oldest temples in Đồng Nai. The Đồng Nai River lies in front of the temple, with Châu Thới Mountain rising behind it. Inside are numerous old bronze and wooden statues, as well as historic horizontal plaques and parallel couplets with Buddhist and humanist themes. Chùa Đại Giác, also known as Đại Giác cổ tự, Chùa Phật lớn, or Chùa Tượng, dates back to 1665. Its grounds cover 3,000 m² and include three interconnected rows of buildings; the temple also houses a 2.25-meter-tall wooden statue of Amitābha.

Memorial Sites and Archaeological Traces

Nhà lao Tân Hiệp was classified as a national historical and cultural monument on October 15, 1994, under Decision No. 2754/QĐ-BT. During the prison uprising on December 2, 1956, 462 cadres and Party members were freed, including many patriotic figures. Restoration and development of the complex began in 2011; it reopened in 2016 to mark the 60th anniversary of the uprising. The complex includes an exhibition building and former prison areas, including a weapons store, the soldiers’ sleeping quarters, a section of the prison foundations, and the prison gate. If you plan to visit, check access arrangements in advance.

Thành cổ Biên Hòa is considered a destination for sightseeing, historical research, and educational field trips focused on passing on traditions, particularly to younger generations. Following several restorations, it retains its distinctive architecture and offers an airy, spacious setting. The Tân Lại archaeological site, on the grounds of Đình Tân Lại, offers another glimpse into the past: three large rectangular stones were found there. They are provisionally classified as elements of ancient temple and tower architecture from the Óc Eo period (1st to 7th centuries) and the subsequent period (8th to 12th centuries).

Đình Tân Lân also brings architecture and tradition together. The temple is imposing and striking in design, with architecture clearly influenced by Chinese culture. A traditional ceremony is held there each year on the death anniversary, drawing visitors from the surrounding area. Check the exact date locally as you plan your trip.

Landscapes and Cultural Experiences

At Văn miếu Trấn Biên, the traditional architecture of Vietnamese temples of literature meets a design that connects spiritual elements with the natural landscape. A day-trip destination and an important local center for cultural education, it hosts regular ceremonies honoring high-achieving students, báo công ceremonies, incense offerings, and programs to pass on traditions. These activities give the site a vibrant cultural role alongside its architecture.

The Bửu-Long tourism complex features a landscape of small rocky islands amid bodies of water spanning several dozen hectares. It is considered a day-trip destination for independent travelers from Đồng Nai and the Southeast region of Vietnam. Chùa Bửu Phong in Biên Hòa is described as a day-trip destination that draws visitors from beyond the province.

When looking for a vacation rental in Biên Hòa, a simple decision can help narrow your search: should your trip focus primarily on temple architecture and religious traditions, historic memorial sites, or landscape experiences?
