Discover Buon Ma Thuot: Coffee, Culture and Landscapes
Accommodation in Buon Ma Thuot
Coffee and architecture offer concrete ways to explore the city of Buon Ma Thuot; the Đắk-Lắk Museum preserves the cultural heritage of the ethnic groups of the Central Highlands. Bún đỏ is a familiar dish in the city, while bánh ướt chồng đĩa is a Buon Ma Thuot speciality. Lake Ea Kao adds a landscape perspective. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider which of these perspectives you want to shape your stay most.
Museums, architecture and city history
The Đắk-Lắk Museum is located at 2 Y-Ngông Street in Tân Tiến Ward. It preserves the cultural heritage of the ethnic groups of the Central Highlands. Chùa Sắc tứ Khải Đoan also offers a distinctive perspective on architecture: built in 1951, it combines the architecture of Huế houses with that of the longhouses of the Central Highlands. Two building traditions thus come together in a single structure.
Bảo Đại Palace is recognised as a national historical monument. Today it serves as a history museum, displaying historical and cultural artefacts of the ethnic groups of Đắk Lắk. Buôn Ma Thuột Prison at 18 Tán Thuật Street preserves historical evidence of Vietnam’s national struggle. Together, these places showcase different themes: cultural heritage, architecture and national history.
Coffee as a theme and experience
Trung Nguyên Coffee Village covers 20,000 m² and is known for its distinctive architecture shaped by the Central Highlands. Visitors can see old coffee trees and visit an Ê-Đê longhouse. The longhouse displays valuable historical objects from the Central Highlands, including gongs, tools, agricultural equipment and weapons. Its plants, architecture and historical objects make the coffee village more than just a place that tells the story of the drink.
The World Coffee Museum is also part of the city’s coffee history: it began operating on 23 November 2018. The museum building covers nearly 2 hectares and is located on Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Street in Buôn Ma Thuột Ward. The Buôn Ma Thuột Coffee Festival is held regularly every two years; specific editions therefore need to be considered separately when planning.
A lake and waterfall nearby
Lake Ea Kao is a provincial-level scenic site and one of Buôn Ma Thuột’s natural tourism resources. Dray Nur Waterfall lies beyond the city: it is about 30 km from Buôn Ma Thuột in the direction of Ho Chi Minh City. The waterfall is 250 m long and connects the areas of Đắk Lắk and Đắk Nông provinces. The approximate distance helps distinguish the lake as an attraction in Buôn Ma Thuột from the more distant waterfall in the surrounding area.
Discover regional dishes
Bún đỏ is a familiar dish in Buôn Ma Thuột. Its broth is reddish-orange: the colour comes from natural annatto seeds, and the base is bone broth. Bánh ướt chồng đĩa, a city speciality served plate by plate, offers a different way to dine. Guests roll the thin rice cakes themselves with their preferred accompaniments and choose a dipping sauce. While broth and annatto define the character of bún đỏ, putting together bánh ướt chồng đĩa yourself is part of the experience.
Choose a focus for your accommodation search
When searching for a holiday apartment, you can weigh the experiences according to the kind of stay you want: if museums, architectural history and coffee are your priorities, focus on the city’s main attractions. If you also want to include Dray Nur, take the approximate distance of about 30 km into account when planning. This links your accommodation choice to the balance between city interests and nearby destinations, rather than treating every experience as the focus of the same outing.
