Khor Fakkan lies between the mountains of Fujairah and the waters of the Gulf. The beach curves along the coast in a three-kilometre crescent; the amphitheatre and waterfall also face Khor Fakkan Bay. The beach and water shape the setting, while historic sites and distinctive buildings offer other ways to plan your stay.

Discover History and Architecture

The Resistance Monument commemorates the victims and the residents’ resistance during the Portuguese invasion of 1507. Its hall covers 898 square metres and contains two rooms: one for film screenings and one for historical collection items. History comes to life here not only through a single date, but also through the place the monument commemorates.

Another perspective on history can be found at Al Adwani Tower, which once served as a lighthouse for the city’s harbour. Souk Sharq, meanwhile, is Khor Fakkan’s restored old market, renovated in the style of the original market. The Salem Al Mutawa Mosque is around two centuries old and is one of the city’s oldest mosques. Its open, arched minaret also makes it architecturally noteworthy. These places offer different points of interest: remembrance of historical events, a former harbour purpose and the preservation of traditional architectural forms.

Beach Days and Time by the Water

At Al Luluyah public beach, swimming and surfing are among the activities on offer; walks along the sandy beach are also a more peaceful way to spend time by the water. As local conditions can vary, take them into account when planning beach activities. If you like to start the day early, there is also a campsite at the beach where you can watch the sunrise. Check the current camping arrangements locally.

Another option for a stay by the sea is nearby Sira Khorfakkan Island, a short boat ride from Khor Fakkan. Swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling among fish, sea anemones and sea turtles are possible there. Check local options for boat trips and equipment if you plan these activities. The beach options therefore offer different experiences: Al Luluyah combines sandy shores with a range of activities, while Sira Khorfakkan focuses on snorkelling and the marine life found there.

What experiences would you like to shape your stay?

When choosing a holiday rental, it may help to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip. If you mainly want to walk along the public beach, swim or surf, the beach options are a natural part of your plans. If you are especially interested in history and architecture, the Resistance Monument, restored Souk Sharq, Salem Al Mutawa Mosque and historic Al Adwani Tower offer a variety of subjects to explore. If you would like to combine both, you can consider the beach and historic sites as different sides of Khor Fakkan.

The activities you have in mind also make a difference: a peaceful walk along the sandy beach is not the same as a day of swimming, surfing or taking a boat trip to the island. These interests give you a practical starting point for looking for accommodation, without making any one type of trip define the town. When choosing your holiday rental, you can consider which experiences matter to you and how much space you want to give to the beach, culture and time by the water during your stay.
